形態特徵

• Evergreen trees; branches gray, branchlets adpressed gray-pubescent.
• Leaves alternate, obovate-oblong to long-elliptic, 9–14 cm long, 3–4 cm broad, coriaceous, entire, rarely obscurely repand, somewhat revolute, acuminate at apex, acute at base, attenuate, polish and pale brown when dry, somewhat depressed-pubescent beneath, lateral veins ca. 8–10 pairs, sulcate above, prominent beneath; petioles 1.5–3 cm long.
• Inflorescence a spike, erect, 11 cm long; staminate flowers 4–5-clustered; perianth 6-parted, 1 mm long, ovate, pilose outside, thin-pubescent and turning red inside; stamens 12; reduced ovary depressed-globose, with dense tufts of long weak hairs at the tip. Pistillate flowers 4–5 clustered; perianth 6-parted; style 3-divided.
• Cupsules dish-shaped, 4 mm long, 9 mm across; nut 1, ovoid to ellipsoid, 1.5 cm long, 1.2 cm across.

分布

• 台灣 : usually in the central mountains at altitudes of 1,600–2,600 m at Yuili, Hualien, and about 650 m at Lienhuachih, Nantou.
• 世界 : Distributed in mainland China (E, S & SE).
